Appeals will only be accepted within seven business days of citation issuance. Faculty, staff and students of GVSU will be required to use the online process for appeal submittal with the exception of in-person appeals. Guests and visitors of GVSU may submit a written appeal (available at either Campus Safety Office), as well as online or in-person.
Invalid Appeal Reasons
- Time constraints, running late
- Lack of knowledge regarding parking rules and regulations
- Parking or stopping for a brief period of time
- Expired permit
- Failure to obtain/display the proper permit
- Vehicle malfunction
- Failure to file an appeal within the specific time period
- The gate was open and no one was in the booth
- This violation has never been enforced before
- Failure to switch permit to vehicle being parked on campus
When entering the appeal link below, if you are not a GVSU student or faculty/staff member, you will need to LOGIN AS GUEST. To do so, you will need your Driver's License number, citation number and you will be asked to create a password. We recommend using your birthday, as it is easy to remember and we cannot reset the password for you in the future. You will continue to use this information to log in for any future visits.
The appeals process is designed to provide a format to present a valid explanation regarding why the parking citation you received would not be considered lawful under the Traffic and Parking Ordinance set forth by GVSU. It is not a process to present a reason or an excuse.
You may speak to an appeals officer in person on a first come, first
served basis, at the campus where you received the citation. No
appointments or phone calls will be taken.
An appeals officer will be at the following locations, dates and times listed below:
Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm
Tuesdays from 9:00am to 10:00am
Guests and visitors may stop by the Public Safety Services office, located in the Service Building on the Allendale Campus or the Security Desk located in the Eberhard Center on the Pew Campus. You will be asked to fill out an appeal form giving your explanation in detail and turn it in with your citation. An appeal decision will be emailed/mailed to you in 7 to 10 days, to the address on the appeal form, or emailed if an email address is provided.
