Laker Effect Challenge winning team earns $3,000

The winning Laker Effect Challenge idea was a Kirkhof College of Nursing project that promotes and supports breastfeeding within the community.

The team behind "Moms to Moms Breastfeeding Support" was nursing students Jamie Platt, Kayleigh Kibler and Kelli Damstra, affiliate faculty of nursing. They won $3,000 after giving a five-minute presentation November 30 at the challenge finals. The project focuses on increasing awareness and education of breastfeeding in African American communities.

Two teams each won $1,000 for their ideas. 

• "Establishing a Safety System at Comprenew" was represented by students Patrick Lynch, Avery Moore, Eric Bell and Ronald Friedreichsen 

• "Book Bags for Beacon," which will send books to families who participate at Beacon of Hope, was represented by student Mary Dieterly.

One poster team earned $500 for their idea.
